Safe Amalgam Removal
“Because I believe passionately in health and well-being, I have always incorporated into my dental practice the safest possible ways to remove dental amalgam from you. Therefore, clients are best advised to have the correct diet and supplements before, during and after the removal of amalgam. This should be done under the guidance of your treating Naturopath or General Practitioner.”
Commonly known as silver fillings, dental amalgam is made up of a mixture of mercury, silver, copper, tin and in some cases zinc. According to the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), all dental amalgams are 45-55% elemental mercury which is toxic, a poison which is recognised as a chemical of major concern due to its dangerous threat to one’s health. As mercury accumulates in the body, any amount of mercury taken into the body should be considered hazardous.
Scientific research proves that dental mercury amalgam exposes dental professionals, dental staff, dental patients, and foetuses to releases of mercury vapour, mercury-containing particulate, and/or other forms of mercury contamination.
Dr Kluge cautions against amalgam removal for pregnant women.
So, mercury fillings are toxic but removing it needs to be done with great care, lest you cause even more problems.
We have met many patients that became sicker upon mercury removal when no or insufficient precautionary steps were taken.
Therefore, Dr Kluge is pleased to advise that she follows the extensive safety recommendations developed by the IAOMT for the removal of existing dental mercury amalgam fillings using extensive protective measures during the procedure.
Our practice has a Swiss made air cleaning system, which cleans the air by constantly drawing in polluted air and returning filtered air back into the room. It contains high-efficiency particulate filters, as well as substantial gas-phase filters for mercury vapours, disinfectants and volatile organic compounds.
This system complements our protocol of using rubber dams, cutting in shanks, providing oxygen delivered via a nasal mask, using plenty of water, special metal cutting burs during all amalgam procedures and the disposable items are replaced immediately after the amalgam restoration has been removed. The procedure is complimented by offering ozonated (03) alkaline drinking water to boost your system immediately.
Dr Kluge will also provide you with a detoxification protocol as your diet and supplementation is a critical factor in supporting your body’s detoxification system. We also recommend that you plan your treatment jointly with your healthcare practitioner so that the timing of events complements each other and does not interfere with results. Following our guidelines, in conjunction with a Healthcare practitioner, will help you to find the correct protocol that benefits you optimally.
You can be assured that you will receive the highest level of clinical care in a place that is as environmentally safe as can be with the current level of technology available.
